Experience an emotional journey through the
history of the equestrian sport in Aachen in the CHIO-Museum
at the offices of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V.
- with the entry being free of charge.
Starting off with the foundation of the association
in 1898, which organised horse races in Laurensberg, spanning
over the move to the Aachener Soers and the first "Riding
& Driving Tournament" in 1924, several World and
European Championships in Show-Jumping and Dressage, the
World Equestrian Games in 2006 through to the first World
Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen with five disciplines this
year.
Many of the exhibits from the archives of the
ALRV, as well as personal souvenirs of the equestrian athletes
are on display. And of course the ALRV is once again uniting
tradition with innovation in the museum project. Medals, historical
documents, books and photos, a stone from the old judges'
house demolished in 2004 and many other curiosities are exhibited
almost within hand's reach in the show-cases. On the other
hand the museum visitors can take a virtual look at film sequences
from the past or call up key data on the respective tournament
per computer. "Our museum is intended to be an emotional
experience, it should impress the visitors," noted ALRV
General Director, Frank Kemperman. Both the 130m² sized
exhibition room on the second floor and the photos and show-cases
in the corridors of the offices in the Albert-Servais-Allee
contribute to this effect. Look at some impressions
of the CHIO-Museum here.
