Helena Stormanns taken to
hospital:
Diagnosis: a broken shin
Helena Stormanns, former world class show jumper
and local matador at the Soers for many years, wouldn't have
been competing at the CHIO Aachen this year anyway. However,
as a proud mother, she would no doubt have liked to have been
there to cheer on her successful son, Thomas Weinberg (21).
Unfortunately though, the 44-year-old from Eschweiler (near
Aachen) broke her right shin (tibial plateau) on Monday while
mounting a horse. As she was just about to mount, the horse
surprisingly cantered off. Helena Weinberg only recently started
riding again, competing at smaller competitions after a long
period of injury due to rupturing her cruciate ligament and
taking time off to have a baby - her son Tony was born in
January 2008. The show jumper underwent an operation on Monday
and will most certainly have to take a longer time-out from
riding.
